AdRotate Free 4.12 – Available now

A small update improving category filtering in Post Injection. Some child categories would get the adverts from their parents, too. Which used to be intended. But things have changed a bit in user preference.

To comply better with GDPR the impression trackers are no longer stored in cookies, but have been moved to Session data.
These cookies were to track impressions in dynamic groups. A few users mentioned there were too many cookies. And then GDPR came around, I realised it’s faster and easier to store them in Session data than to build in a button to allow extra cookies nobody wants anyway.

Changes

  • [fix] Post Injection showing adverts in the wrong categories
  • [change] Moved tracker for dynamic groups into Session Storage

Strange discoveries

I have no idea what this is, it looks like some kind of drainage thing. Except, it’s at the top of a mountain range. Not sure what that’s all about.

AdRotate Free 4.11.2 – Available now!

A quick update rolling back Post Injection to what it was in version 4.10. Which worked better than the current iteration. Fixing it for real has proven more difficult than anticipated and will take some time.

Turns out there was something wrong with Shortcodes and caching, this has been fixed, too.

Changes

  • [rollback] Post Injection to previous version
  • [fix] Shortcodes for W3 Total Cache not reliable for some users

A scenic display

Way up in the mountains a previous government built an actual dam of rocks and sand. To catch water and control the flow of water down the mountain so it could be used for irrigation. Nice. But now it’s all broken and derelict. Ready for scenic pictures to be taken.

Post Injection redone and reinvented

The next update for AdRotate Pro and AdRotate Free will be all about Post Injection. The whole system is going to be redone.
I’m tired of theme incompatibilities. And over the last few months, based on user feedback and comments, I’ve pretty much pinpointed the limitations how Post Injection currently works.

I’m not entirely sure how I’m going to fix things, but I’ll probably take the whole option set away from groups and make it a separate thing. This should allow for greater control (hopefully) of where and how many adverts show up in places.

I’ve looked at some other plugins on how they do it, yes I’m cheating a bit, and have some ideas on how to make things right.

So far I’ve always tried to patch things up based on the current mindset, clearly it’s not working and as much as I dispise ever inventing Post Injection, it is a popular feature that is important to a lot of users. So we’re stuck with it, pretty much.

Stay tuned for fanciness and working Post Injection.
