AdRotate Pro 5.14 – Multisite Networking re-done and improved

This version of AdRotate Professional comes with a slew of improvements and tweaks. Most notably a revamp of the Multisite Networking features. Making it much more easy to share groups of ads across instances on your network and see on those instances where and which ads are included.

On top of that WordPress’ Gutenberg blocks got an upgrade and now support AdRotate’s Caching features, same as widgets. And groups work more efficiently as a whole, looping less data around, which should make them a tiny tiny bit faster and more memory efficient.

Multisite instances

For groups you can now select which group to pull ads from in the dashboard. This renders the site attribute/variable you’d use in Shortcodes and PHP Snippets mostly obsolete. The aim is to remove it at some point, but that’s not decided yet. A big change is that the shortcodes and PHP code behaves a bit different from this version onwards. You now place the local group and the Site variable tries to add in the network ads, with the local ads. The local ads can be empty… But it has to be a local group.

This allows for networked groups to be mixed in with local ads in that group. Which was never possible before.

If you have a Multisite, check out the new option in your group settings (When editing a group, Advanced section) for the new dropdown menu. Once saved, you can also see the network ads listed in the Adverts list when editing the group highlighted in blue.

Video adverts

Video ads are becoming more popular for some reason. AdRotate Pro’s Advert Generator can now generate a basic video advert. This is very much an experiment, but the basic code should work and be responsive.

You’ll find the new options in the Advert Generator. For now only mp4 files are supported. Let me know what you think, does the generated advert work for you? Or if not, what would you like to see changed?

Mobile adverts

For Mobile ads the “Other” Operating system has been removed as it was largely unused. The remaining “iOS” an “Android” options are only used when the “Mobile” or “Tablet” options are enabled. The idea here is that the Mobile function offers less combinations to go wrong on, improving the ease of use.

Update to AdRotate Professional 5.10.4 – Fixing Post Injection!

This version further improves Post Injection yet again and enables multiple groups in the same post or page to work reliably. While I thought I fixed this in the last update. A conflict in the logic prevented multiple groups from working. In the process I also redid how the post content is handled making it more efficient. It now loops less through the content for faster results.

Updating to AdRotate Pro 5.10.4 via (s)FTP

If you’re still ‘stuck’ on 5.10.1 or 5.10.2 you may need to update manually to the latest version. This can be done quite easily by following the manual steps on the update guide here: Upgrade AdRotate Pro to a newer version. If you need help with this please let me know in a support ticket and we’ll take it from there.

AdRotate Banner Manager 5.10.1 – Available now!

AdRotate Banner Manager 5.10.1 fixes the logic for Post Injection like the 5.10.3 update for AdRotate Professional did. Several fixes are included to make Post Injection more useful and functional. As introduced in the previous update, AdRotate Banner Manager now supports Post Injection up to 20 paragraphs. And this now actually works too. yay!

The database updater has been fixed and now properly applies the update to the database. This should get rid of the annoying error on the Groups dashboard.

Several components of the dashbaord have been updated, texts and links and such as well as the AdRotate Pro page to better reflect the current features of AdRotate pro. And due to these changes all relevant strings in various translations have been updates and translated as well. If you find any grammar errors or silly translations in that, please let me know. I use an auto-translator for most languages.

AdRotate Banner Manager 5.10 – Available now!

Similar to AdRotate Pro version 5.10 for AdRotate Banner Manager overhauls Post Injection. Most visible is the addition of more placement options. You can now add adverts after way more paragraphs in posts and pages.

In the background most of the Post Injection code has been rewritten to work better and more reliably and it got the same treatment as AdRotate pro. This means that longstanding intermittent issues like double adverts should be a thing of the past.

AdRotate Professional 5.10.1 – Fixing Post Injection!

Version 5.10.1 fixes the overhauled Post Injection – Which didn’t work for everyone. A small oversight with WooCommerce products has been addressed. And the content filter for Post Injection in general has been redone so it now actually works.

Even though I’ve been testing for almost a week some silly stuff still slipped into the code. Not sure how that could happen. The array telling pages what kind of advert to load didn’t work correctly. But it’s fixed now. Post Injection now works, with one or multiple groups and as many ads as you want in those one or more groups. yay!

Update regularly!

Staying up-to-date with AdRotate Pro is easier than ever now that I finally figured out the intermittent update info getting lost that happened for some users. I never encountered this myself, and as a result always thought it was some glitch with WordPress transients or something. WP being dumb basically. Based on recent user feedback I did figure it out and found another cause – WordPress being dumb in a different way. For some reason WordPress assumes the plugin slug (an important identifier) by its name instead of just using the slug, this assumed slug then doesn’t match the actual slug for AdRotate pro. I found a way to ‘cheat in’ the actual slug, and now popups and update information are shown more reliable.
